Manual Toll Collection (MTC) & Manual Road Charging (MRC)
The most traditional approach for collecting charging or toll collection is the manual one.
The most significant components of a MTC / MRC system are:
- Toll Plaza / Booths
- Road Side Equipment (RSE)
- Toll Collectors & Staff
- Cash Handling System
- Back Office System
According to the manual toll collection methodology, a driver has to stop at a charging booth and pay the required fee directly to a collector. The amount to be paid by each vehicle is determined by its characteristics or classification.

The Bee Soft Manual Toll Collection (MTC) & Manual Road Charging (MRC) solution consists of software developed entirely by Bee Tech using open architectures, which has a track record of proven performance and reliability. The MRC lane application component communicates with electronic vehicle sensors (called Automatic Vehicle Classification) that are used to crosscheck the class of the vehicles and determine the charge of fee.
The MTC and MRC systems provide a comprehensive interface for the collectors of the charging point inside the booths, a plaza reporting interface for the station's technicians, supervisors and administrators and an enforcement interface that facilitates the monitoring of the vehicles using the charging points. As far as the back-office is concerned, the plaza database server is designed to offer high performance, easy extensibility and expandability, and at the same time robustness in events such as network outages. The MRC is connected to the central database center (CDBC) for centralized supervision and management of operations.
The main functionality of the CDBS is summarized in:
- Automatic vehicle classification by means of vehicle height and axle count
- Manual Toll Collection, with recording of fares and transits and automatic sorting in transaction types and vehicle categories
- Enforcement with recorded images of the vehicle rear license plate at the toll plaza and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) capability
- Supervision and monitoring of the toll plaza's operations
- Fully customizable interface with multiple languages, user friendly graphics and color options is fully supported
